What the needles do
Micro-channels start a wound-healing response.
A sterile single-use cartridge repeatedly enters the skin at a controlled setting. The resulting inflammation and remodelling may improve texture or some scars over time, but needling does not erase a scar and results vary by scar type.
Active acne, infection, eczema or another inflamed condition should not simply be needled. The Glasgow assessment also considers pigmentation history, cold sores, keloid scarring, healing problems, medicines and previous procedures.

Microneedling can increase penetration. Products not designed or authorised for intradermal delivery may cause infection, irritation or granulomatous reactions, so ask exactly what will contact the skin during treatment.

Can active acne be microneedled?

Is microneedling safe for darker skin?
It can be suitable across many skin tones and often avoids the heat of laser, but post-inflammatory darkening or lightening remains possible. Conservative settings, healing time and sun protection matter.
What should not be put into the channels?
Do not assume a cosmetic serum is safe because it is labelled natural or contains vitamins. US FDA guidance says authorised microneedling devices have not been reviewed to deliver cosmetics, drugs or blood products into the skin.
Who may be unsuitable?
Active infection or inflammatory skin disease, pregnancy, impaired immunity or healing, bleeding disorders or anticoagulants, keloid tendency, recent isotretinoin and some prior procedures can lead to deferral or exclusion.
When should I get help after treatment?
Increasing heat, pain, swelling, pus, fever, blistering, a cold-sore outbreak, marked pigment change or a persistent raised rash is not routine flaking. Contact the clinic and seek medical assessment as appropriate.
